HDMI cable connection Laptop > Samsung Moniter?

Good afternoon,

For the past year or so, I have been using dual vision through my laptop screen and a 24.5" samsung monitor. The connection worked great and I always had no problem. Up until about 2 weeks ago when it just all of a sudden wasn't detected on my laptop and wasn't displaying anything. Now I can feel as if it is detected because when I move my mouse cursor to that screen as if it were working it does goes over to that screen. I can tell because my mouse doesn't stop on my laptop screen. (Trust me I know that the mouse goes to the other screen) I have tried to see if the monitor through my old laptop with worked and it works on my old lap top. I can tell that the HDMI port on my laptop works in some sort of way also because the screen on my laptop turns black for a second and turns back on. So I truly do not see anything that can be wrong with anything. Do you think that my laptop just isn't compatible with the screen anymore? Thank you,
