Samsung Galaxy note 3 encrypt device error?

So I wanted to change my password on my galaxy note 3 so as usual I went to my settings and then to the security section, I hit encrypt device which I thought I always did to change it and all of a sudden unusually my phone rebooted and then had this encrypting status bar which kind of creeped me out so I just powered off the phone. Upon powering it back up 2 minutes later I was greeted with a message saying "encryption failed, unable to perform encryption due to interruption, perform factory reset before use." So now I don't know what to do… I had a google account linked so will it give me apps and songs back if I reset and then back up? What should i do?
