A criminal making a deal with the police by giving up money not people?

hi im on public services course in college and really getting into organized crime and i live in a area with some well known people and groups there always in the local newspaper and even been on BBC news few times… Well in my area they are well known always flashing the cash showing high levels of violence ect…

So there is this local criminal he wheels and deals bit of a del boy he has been questioned by the police about 3 - 5 times but never arrested… Until the other day he was caught with a van load of stolen watches and fake watches and stolen Samsung tablets around 15 and ive been told class c drugs not enough to be done for intent to sell tho more for his own use.ive been told he wanted to make a deal but would not give up any names for who he works for or with ( as he has been linked with a gang ) but he said he would give up all his dirty money if he can be let off going to prison plus the police have looked into other things with him something to do with a knife but somehow got off with that a few years ago and ran after two people with police baton but it was dropped as no one would speak up ect…

my question is would the police really do that deal or is it all bullshit? I dont know a lot about this but was interested surely if he gave up dirty money the police would want to know where that came from witch would make things worse?
