How to stop notifications from interrupting your music on the Galaxy Note 5?

When I'm listening to music and someone messages me, or I get an email, my music will fully pause, then my notification tone will sound, then my music will start up again. This completely ruins the mood of the music for me, and I'd like to be able to fix it.

I know that it's possible, as my friend has the exact same phone as I do. AND we use the exact same music player (the Galaxy Note 5 Default music player). Their phone simply decreases the volume of the music when a notification goes off, and this is what I want for my own phone.

I know that I can just temporarily mute my notifications, but that's not what I'm here for. I'm not looking for an inconvenient workaround. For the same reason, I'm not looking for someone to recommend me a third party app in order to fix the issue. I know they exist, but none of them do exactly what I want them to do: they either just pause notifications for you or have some other problem I'm trying to avoid. I also don't want to use alternate music players, as I have tried many of them and they also cause some problem or another.

I know that it's possible, so please just tell me how I can prevent my music from pausing when I receive a notification. Thank you very much?
