Verizon phone being used as Cricket showing up + signs on incoming calls?

I recently purchased the Galaxy s7 from Verizon because I was told they come unlocked. I use the phone for Cricket which shows up as AT&T since I believe they are partnered. Just to put this out there the phone works completely fine the only problem I have is that for all my incoming calls they come out with the + sign in front of it so when missing a call I am unable to call the number back. I have to edit it to be able to call back and I also can not reply to an incoming message with a picture message. I am wondering if they are maybe not fully compatible? Or maybe I need to get an unlock code?
