Anybody else had this problem with the GPS on an Android device?

I have had three tablets and one phone that have been GPS enabled. (It may seem odd that I've only had one phone with a GPS, but it's because I've only had one smartphone. I've had it since August.) Every single one of them seemingly had something wrong with the GPS. When I used Google Maps to guide me to where I was driving, it would randomly disconnect for a long time or think I was in a totally different place. I couldn't even use it most of the time. My Insignia Flex 10.1, which I bought refurbished last week, is the worst. The others worked fine for a while and worked sometimes. This one had problems from day one every single time I used it. Then I started thinking it was odd that every GPS enabled device I've ever owned has had GPS problems, so I started looking into other possible explanations. It couldn't be related to the area since my grandparents (I live with them) never have any problem. I thought maybe it was just disconnecting on its own, so I downloaded an app that keeps the GPS running at all times. The app did its job, but that didn't help either. I decided to try a different app. I downloaded Waze. That didn't work either, but it's owned by Google, so I tried HERE Maps. Now there's no problem. I think the problem was related to Google Maps. Has anybody else experienced anything like this? Here's a list of the devices I've used, if that helps:
Samsung Galaxy Tab 4
ZTE Maven (which is pretty good for a $60 phone)
Dell Venue 7
Insignia Flex 10.1
