My Samsung galaxy s6 edge cracked already? It hasn't been two weeks since I got it?

So my dad he got me a cover and got like this glass protection thing for it and it still cracked and I'm so upset I mean the crack isn't that bad its like at the top right corner a little but I can't believe the cellphone cracked so easily. It was on the table and I accidentally slid my elbow off of it while writing. Tips to prevent further damage? Also upgraded 6 generations yeah I had an s1 lol but don't see the hype in this its slow too. Should I tell my parents? But idk if I need the warranty the crack isn't that bad as it could've been
