Browser for Samsung Android Tablet that is NOT exclusively in the Google Apps store?

I'm stuck in an annoying circular problem: I can't download apps from the Google Play Store because the browser on the tablet is no longer supported. And all the browsers it supports apparently must be downloaded from Google and not the application's site.

And the Google Play app on the tablet has decided it's not going to contact Google Play - I get a service not found error although everything else is on the tablet is working just fine. (yers, it's turned on, wireless is working, etc.)

I don't download from those cheesy 3rd party sites that show up in search. I don't trust them to not load malware into the apps. Are there any reliable places to get a browser outside the Google Play Store?
