Long Story:
There's some videos that a friend is trying to download for a class and he already has a few but started to question if it was legal and traceable. He downloaded them via Samsung Galaxy by long pressing the video and pressing "Save Video"
This is where his questions start. First, the videos he downloaded degraded in quality and were a different file type (.mp4) instead of the original type (.flv). So he was think if the device is converting it from the file visible on the website or if it is directly contacting the original website?
So now he wonders if the original website is able to see his IP Address and take action against him for downloading, if that is truly what is happening.
Second to last, through investigation, he found out the original website of the embedded video is DOWN. Does that mean they can still collect information on his IP, see what he's doing and track him down?
And Lastly, if another website is using embedded information from a website currently down, will the embedded file still work (contacting the original site)
Sorry for long questions but much information is needed. Or at least an explanation on embedded files (easy to find), if websites can tell if you download something (tried but failed to find), and how the android long press "save video" feature works from a technical aspect (could not find anywhere).
Thank you
