Is the Micro SD card defective?
My laptop's SD card reader is functioning correctly, at least for several other cards I've tried.
I have a brand new 32GB card (Kingston brand from Best Buy, not one of the leading brands). I'm trying to install in a phone (Galaxy S5), but the phone doesn't recognize it, nor does the laptop. When I put it into the SD Adapter and insert it into the slot on the laptop (newer HP Envy running Windows 10), I get a chime indicating that it recognizes something. I also get a "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the system tray. That indicates there is an SDHC card present.
However, I cannot find that card with Windows Explorer. I open up This PC, and the card is not there.
Seems to me that the card is defective. It's brand new, just opened. Unfortunately, I bought this over a year ago, and it's just sat in a drawer for a while until I took it out today to use for the first time. So returning it would be a problem.
Might it just need formatting? Or are these factory-formatted? Is it possible that I need to do something to it before it will function? Expert advice would be appreciated.
Added (1). I just saw that this has a 5 year warranty, and I should be able to return it to Best Buy.
