Why do cell phones cost as much as 2 computers with no contract?

64 gig iPhone, no contract, $849 without tax or shipping…

Galaxy S5 - $749 with no contract.

You can buy 2 $450 laptops or desktops that have pretty decent specs for $900. Even with a contract you pay way more than this over time. Hell, you can buy a 50 inch TV with Internet and voice activation for less than $1000.

So why are these crappy little things so expensive? 99% of games suck, 99% of apps are useless, poor ergonomic design is ruining our wrists, the ear buds are causing a generation of 20 year olds with deafness levels common amongst 50 year olds. Are we paying for the phone function? Do we even talk on them anymore? 99% of the time is spent on aps or on the Internet.

$900 for a cell phone with no contract just blows my mind. My desktop with a terabyte, 2 22 inch monitors, and a $200 graphics card cost less than a cell phone with no contract and its 1,000,000x more powerful and useful. Cell phones have to be one of the biggest rackets.
