What could be causing this issue with my Samsung Galaxy Y phone?

A few weeks ago, I turned my phone off and then turned it on again. Upon restarting, I went to my phone gallery, and all my newly taken photos had vanished from the gallery, however photos I took some months ago were intact. I looked in my SD card folder under gallery, and all my photos that I had taken were in this folder including those that had vanished from the actual phone gallery.

It has happened since, whenever I switch my phone off and then on again, all my recent photos vanish from the gallery.

Has this ever happened to anyone else? Genuine answers only please. Thanks all.
